Gudarna på Västerbron is the second studio album by Swedish hip hop group Hov1, with the first being their self-titled debut album, Hov1. Gudarna på Västerbron was released on 6 April 2018 as digital download and on streaming platforms, through Universal Music.[3][5][6] The album was recorded in a studio in Hornstull, Sweden and proved successful in the country, debuting at number one on the Swedish Albums Chart.[7][8] As of 2 May 2020, the album has charted for a total of 108 weeks in Sweden.[9]Gudarna på Västerbron also placed at number one on the Album year-end chart in 2018 in Sweden, as well as number seven on the chart for 2019.[10][11] All songs were written by Hov1, while the album mainly was produced by the group's producer and member, Axel Liljefors Jansson.[7][12]

Critical reception[edit]

Gudarna på Västerbron received generally positive reviews from Swedish music critics.[13]Expressen's reviewer Anders Nunstedt noted the songs 'Pari', 'Stan e mörk' and 'Hon dansar vidare i livet' as highlights and also praised Hov1 for both using low-tempo and high-tempo beats. Moreover, he called the album 'catchy'.[1] Natasha Azarmi of Aftonbladet stated that the album's strongest songs were the last three, calling the lyrics and melodies emotional. She opined that the album proves that Hov1's songwriting is 'what the group is best at'.[4] Writing for Gaffa, Simon Lundberg stated that the album contains a mixture of 'modern pop and hip hop' and he continued by praising the songs 'Pari' and 'Stan e mörk', saying that those tracks shows that Hov1 has matured since the group's previous releases.[2]

Hov1 (pronounced Hovet) is a Swedish hip hop group formed in 2015[1] that is signed to Universal Music Sweden.[2] The group has released four studio albums; Hov1, Gudarna på Västerbron, Vindar på Mars and Montague. They all charted atop the Swedish Albums Chart.

History[edit]

2015–present: First releases and future projects[edit]

Made up of Ludwig Kronstrand, Noel Flike, Dante Lindhe and Axel Liljefors Jansson,[3] Hov1's debut hit single was 'Hur kan du säga saker', which was released in 2015. They released their self-titled debut album Hov1 in April 2017, promoting it with the 'Abbey Road Tour'. The follow-up album was Gudarna på Västerbron, released in April 2018. Both albums have topped the Swedish Albums Chart. On 17 May 2019, the band released their third studio album, Vindar på Mars.[4] Furthermore, on 10 January 2020, Hov1 released their fourth studio album (also described as a mixtape),[5] called Montague.[6] Both of these releases debuted at number one the Swedish Albums Chart.[7][8] They also charted on the Finnish Albums Chart, peaking at number 25 and 40, respectively.[9][10] According to Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, the group will release another album in the summer of 2020, which reportedly will contain more pop than previous releases as well as more inspiration from film music.[11] A release date for the album has not yet been revealed, but it will reportedly contain nine tracks.[12][13]

Awards[edit]

Hov1 has received several awards during its career. The group received three Rockbjörnen awards in 2018, as well as in 2019. The awards were, for instance, 'Live-group of the year', 'Best fans of the year' and 'Concert of the year'. The group also received three awards in the 'P3 Guld gala' in 2019; 'Group of the year', 'Guldmicken' and 'Best song of the year', the latter with the song 'Hon dansar vidare i livet'.[14][15][16]
